Small business Skindigenous donates essential items during Covid-19 Pandemic

Dulce, NM – Native American owned small business Skindigenous skin care developed the
Jicarilla Apache Labor of Love C-19 in an effort to assist tribes struggling during the Covid-19
Pandemic.

When the Covid-19 Pandemic spread through New Mexico, Skindigenous Founder/Owner and
Jicarilla Apache member Lynn Roanhorse like everyone wanted to protect her loved ones,
stocking up on essential supplies and making face masks for family members. With the
assistance of her granddaughters, eight-year-old Ilynn Clark and seven-year-old Zia Clark she
extended her assistance by creating face masks for the elders in the community of Dulce.
Shortly after she saw other tribes struggling, she expanded her aid by tapping into her
Skindigenous company by donating 100% of her profits to assist in her relief efforts.
More local people found out about her efforts and began donating money and creating more
masks which grew into the Jicarilla Apache Labor of Love C-19. They have provided face
masks, disinfectant supplies and face shields to the Dulce Community elders and individuals who
have compromised health. Lynn also gathered and put together essential care packages including
clothes, blankets and PPE to the Crown Point and Shiprock Navajo Nation Police Departments
along with water going to Navajo people in rural areas. PPE supplies have been sent to Arizona
to the White Mountain Apache Police, Corrections Department and EMS employees. In
addition, they will be making additional 200+ reusable masks for the White Mountain Apache
elders and a shipment of supplies is targeted for a small community of the Crow Tribe in
Montana.

Although the Labor of Love team feels overwhelmed at times, Lynn emphasizes “We are in this
together. If we don’t help one another in a positive way like social distancing, wearing a mask,
practicing good hygiene, spirituality and practice compassion for our own people, we will
literally become an endangered people. We cannot allow that to happen if we are mentally and
physically able to prevent it. Again, our adults need to take this pandemic serious and protect our
future. Practice CDC guidelines to protect our most vulnerable, our elders and the youth. Don’t
let our ancestors sacrifices be in vain.”

Lynn would like to send out a huge thank you to all those who helped, donated, volunteered and
sewed – they are Ilynn and Zia Clark, Morningstar Blackhorse, Olivia Maria, Ina Montoya and
family, Eleanor James and family, Derwin Velarde, Etta Arviso and family, Arron Julian, Elaine
